Richard Barone, october 2011: I participated in the Redline World Almanac BMX Skills Competition in 1983, I believe late July, at Sundance Cycles, Sundance, Illinois, USA. At the time I was sponsored by BMX Underwriters, Mike Carruth, and cosponsored by ODI Mushroom grips, Zeronine number plates, and a few others I can’t recall. My most notable team member was Randy Tischmann. We had a trick team and we tested bikes and parts, wrote about them and published a small magazine called CanAm BMX news. (haven’t seen a copy since then) I participated in two events; It was the max number you could do in one event. I attempted the formula distance jump and the bunnyhop. I officialy set a new record for jumping that day of 15’ 11” 7/8 inches besting Martin Aparaijo's previous record. I believe it was reported in the Dec. 83 BMX Plus, but don’t have copies to check, not even online. The only clue I can give is that the first photo of me appeared in the Nov.83 issue pg.60 and calls me the Unidentified Jag Rider, mostly because I was just sponsored that trip by Renny Roker Jox/Jag . In a later issue, I believe Dec.83 or some early issue of 84 they report on my jumping record and mention me by name, using another photo from the same day and jump. It’s the only “proof” that I have anymore showing I did this feat as well as smashing the then 39 ?” bunnyhop set by Stu Thompson with a 45” bunnyhop over the bars of a ten speed road bike being balanced by the rider. This was not counted as official however due to the fact that the competition was closed at that time because the parking lot they rented gave them until 2 pm. Although over 100 people saw it including my sponsor who promptly called John Kerr, editor of BMX Plus! It would be ideal if I could at least get that particular news item because of its irrefutable nature but I don’t mind starting the hunt from the original published pick as I’m sure someone will find it in no time once they know what to look for.
BMX Action january 1984: Well gang, looks like there's a new world record for long distance wheelies. We received a letter from the president of the French Association of BMX (Association Francaise de Bi-Crossing), certifying that 18 year old Stephane (no, it's not a girl's name) Colley from Paris, France, wheelied 22,53 miles! (That's 36.248 kilometers for you metric fans.) It took him 2 hours, 29 minutes to complete the feat. Can anyone Certify that they have topped this?

Bicross magazine août 1985: Le record de pogo, rebond en équilibre sur la roue avant, qui était détenu jusqu'alors par un anglais (150 bonds) vient d'être battu par Ghislain Jeannenot avec un vélo trial Fantic: 473 rebonds ont été constatés par M. Strychalski, huissier de justice à St-Avold !
RAMPLESS LONG JUMP.
BMX Action Bike december 1985: Fabrice Bussy, the BH freestyler has just gone in the '86 Guiness Book of Records with the world's longest rampless long jump at 6,04 mètres (19 feet 9 inches). Any takers ?
The Guiness Book of world records changes their record for highest air on a vert ramp. The original high air was 9 feet 9 inches by Josh White. After further review (instant replay) the event promoters decided Brian Blyther had actually gone higher. The new record was 10 feet 2 inches. Some of the other events were the highest bunnyhop, set by Max Huth at 40-1/4 inches (although Vance Hubersberger went 41-1/2 inches three years ago), the distance jump (racer Brian Lopes won that with an amazing leap of 30 feet, 3-1/2 inches) and the most consecutive boomerangs which Chris Day took with a whopping nine (although he has done way more than that before).

Bruno Périchoux saute par dessus 22 personnes et établit un nouveau record du monde de longueur en bunny hop.
Bruno: J'ai fait ce record pour un centre commercial qui me sponsorisait a l'époque, c' était le 1er mai 1989. Ils m'avaient demandé un truc qui serait médiatique a l'occasion de la fête du vélo. C'était bunny hop ou wheeling (j'avais fait 22 km sur la roue arrière à l'époque) et j'ai choisi les Bunny hop. Le saut mesurait environ 6.50m a l'entrainement mais le jour du record les gens couchés étaient moins bien rangés et donc c'était plus long, soit 7.30 m d'après l' huissier qui a homologué le record.
Oliver Matthews now holds the official Guiness Book Of World Records aerial height record out of a quarterpipe, skying way over a 3m10 tall height pole stuck on top of a 9ft tall quarterpipe.

TALLEST COMPETITOR ???
Standing at 6 ft 6, Ryan Brennan was in the Guiness Book of World Records for being the tallest competitor in the1998 X-Games.
Colin Winkleman is the Guinness Book of World Record holder for longest BMX bicycle jump-116' over 13 Ford Expeditions.
The highest air achieved on a BMX bicycle is 8.07 m (26.5 ft) by Mat Hoffman (USA), from a 7.31 m (24 ft) tall quarterpipe ramp on 20 March 2001, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA.
However, Hoffman was towed by a motorcycle in the runup to the jump. The highest ever air on a halfpipe is 5.8 m (19 ft), by Dave Mirra (USA) off a 5.4 m (18 ft) tall ramp in San Diego, California, USA in January 2001.
Martti Kuoppa inscrit son nom au Guinness Book of Records with rolling no-footed on the front wheel of his bike for 100 meters and doing 59 pinky squeaks in a minute.

Andreas Lindqvist (Sweden) completed 98 continuous rotations of his 50.8 cm (20 in) freestyle BMX bike whilst balancing on just the front wheel on 30 October 2001.
HIGHEST INDOOR BMX JUMP.
The highest indoor BMX ramp jump is 5.12 m (16.79 ft) by Germany's Timo Pritzel and Spain's Jesús Fuentes on the set of El Show de los Records, Spain, on September 21, 2001.
HIGHEST VERTICAL DROP ON A BICYCLE.
www.guinnessworldrecords.com: Walter Belli (Italy) and David Cachón Labrador (Spain) both rode their BMX bicycles off a platform 4 m (13.12 ft) high and continued to cycle upon landing without their feet touching the ground on the set of El Show de los Récords, Madrid, Spain on 5 December 2001. In accordance with the rules of this record, they were not allowed a runup before dropping off the platform into thin air.

April 2002, Stephen Murray entered the Red Bull "High Air" contest at the European King Of Dirt Series in Leipzig, Germany and took first! This was big as his winning jump of 5.55 meters was an officially recognized Guinness World Record!
www.dcshoes.com, 2/19/2003: When asked what he wanted to do for his DC ad, Allan jumped at the opportunity: he wanted to do a backflip farther than anyone else had. DC BMX team manager Brian Botts set up the location at the remote Point X Camp, located east of Temecula, California. A tall, steep roll-in, with about four feet of near vert at the very top, led down to a skinny metal jump ramp, the same kind used by freestyle motocrossers. The initial gap was 45 feet wide. The landing was an incredibly steep bank ramp that funneled into a 20-foot-tall quarter pipe. Allan supervised the construction on Saturday evening, and on Sunday he went for it. He backflipped the initial distance of 45 feet, then moved the take-off ramp back five feet. He threw a single straight air to gauge the new distance, then followed it with a 50-foot backflip. Once again, the take-off ramp was moved back five feet. Allan aired it, climbed to the top of the roll-in, hopped in, and threw another backflip for a final distance of 54 feet.
Never mind backflipping 54 feet over hard desert ground and an unforgiving wood ramp—Allan’s biggest worry was the wind: I was so high up that the desert wind started to worry me, I could feel it pushing at me at the top of the roll-in, and I was worried it’d blow me off the landing. But it all worked out. This flip was really hard to calculate because you had to adjust your rotation for both the distance and the speed, I had to just trust that once I got in the air my instincts would take over and I would stick the landing.
The record for the most gyrator spins in one minute is 33 by Sam Foakes (UK) at the offices of Guinness World Records in London, UK, on July 20, 2004.
