Simon bloody Smith, march 2007: Hi, I've just discovered your site it is truly wonderful, the guy in the pink pants on the cover of issue 36 is me Simon Smith. I rode for Ultra bmx and GT and I won most of the 16+ experts nationals in the late 80's. I left bmx for skating after I turned masterclass and then went on to become a pro snowboarder from 1990 to 1999. in 1998 I had a serious fracture dislocation of the fib and tib in my leg from getting back into bmx and learning back flips so i hung up my handle bars. I received a lifetime achievement award from the brit snowboard industry in 2000 and have been working in the snowboard industry ever since. I am now 38 and going back into carpentry and design (my body is very broken). Those early years of bmx and the whole scene were wonderfully, I miss them dearly and your site has put a smile on my face for the last 3 hours just searching through it. please keep it going.

The Albion #6, 2012: BMX as a viable pay as you go business hit a wall in the late eighties, 85’ was the year they were playing the death march, 86’ and it was all but buried. Freestyle was &Mac222;nally ditching the Craig Campbell race clothing era of full face helmets and goggles on visors and stupid hopping tricks and a new unfamiliar wind was blowing, however BMX hadn’t reached a point where it was fully &Mac223;edged as an art form. Skateboarding however, was in its assurgency and when BMX Action Bike became RAD in 1987, its editor Nick Phillips and partisan skate/reluctant BMX photographer Tim Leighton-Boyce, were keen to ditch BMX as it slipped into the doldrums. After six months BMX was out, but RAD continued until 1993, where it eventually merged and became Sidewalk Surfer magazine.
