Superstitious |
Released in 1995
Ride BMX US october 1995: I like Rob Nolli. If you like Rob Nolli, then you'll love Superstitious. Superstitious captures Florida's freestyle scene, which is basically Rob Nolli, Aaron Behnke, Dave Brumlow, and Dave Maverow. All four riders are shown tbroughout this flick at random skateparks (Radlands, the Brothel, Stone Edge, etc...), street scenes, on tennis courts, and even in the parade at Disneyland.
Nolli tailwhips, barflips, and even flatlands enough to satisfy any GT riding, UGP wearing, stunt riding enthusiast.
Non-Florida residents include Taj (who jumps some big gaps and lands manual in Orlando), Trevor Meyer (big handlebars), Kip WilIiamson (wheelchair), and Mark Losey (punching bag).
This video is put together well and shows an assortment of street, flat, and mini
ramp riding, along with a few quick teasers of Brennan Brown riding dirt. |
Face Value |
Released in 1997.
Edited by Kip Williamson.
Ride BMX UK april 1997: We'll start off by saying that although this video is a little short at 30 minutes long, it's probably the best video we've seen since Madd Matt. UGP hired Kip Williamson to make their '97 video, and what a good move that was - Kip makes seriously hot videos and puts real effort into editing and film quality. It starts off with Luc'E street riding [plus Woodward sessions], runs through the best mini ramp tricks right now from Dave Friemuth [he's sick!], Rob Nolli [power], Robbie Morales [a little bit], with a bit of skating, wakejumping and motocross, plus the Garcia bros, some more Woodward riding [this place is so rad you'll be wanting to book plane tickets immediately], Brian Foster, and the most mental section from Taj Mihelich. Big rails, big gaps, bags of style, real lines around skateparks, Taj has got the lot. I read in SNAP that this video is worth it for the Taj section alone, and it's true - Taj rocks his section. But there's also bang up-to-date flatland riding from Chad Dagroot [v.impressive indeed - good Beck soundtrack], he also rides street and ramps too.
BMX Plus! february 1998: UGP has a lot of awesome riders on its team, so you know this video has to be good. In fact, many people consider Taj Mihelich's section in Face Value to be one of the best freestyle video parts of all time.
Face Value has lots of street and mini ramp footagealong with some dirt jumping and flatland. Big names with dope parts in Face Value include John Englebert, Rob Nolli, Chad Degroot and Dave Freimuth. There is also a little skateboard, motorcycle and wakeboard action in Face Value, so if you have a brother or sister who is into one of these sports, maybee you can make them pay for half of it.
A must for every mini and street rider.
Kip Williamson, august 2015: Face Value was a video I created for UGP back in 1995... hard to believe it was 20 years ago! Long before social media so it's cool to read the comments and see just how many people saw this video! It's a very humbling experience to say the least. The real stars are always the riders, and Taj was serious about giving this video his best shot. Shooting with Taj was awesome and he hit most of these tricks in 5 tries or less which meant I had to be ready on his first try or I might miss something. Many of his tricks were pulled first try! Style, variety, aggression, and flow were just a few words I would use to describe TAJ. Hit the link and give his section another look. It's not just about the tricks, but the way the tricks were done... We call that STYLE! |

Mission of nonsense |
Released in 2001
Edited by Kip Williamson and Ron Bonner.
Running time: 40 min.
Reviews: www.fatbmx.com, BMX Action april 2001.
IT'S FINALLY DONE. MISSION OF NONSENSE. IT'S TAKEN US FOUR YEARS, BUT DEFINITELY WORTH THE WAIT. STARING AARON BEHNKE, JARROD CREALLY, DAVE FREIMUTH, JIM RIENSTRA, CHAD DEGROOT, AND JOEY GARCIA. THESE SIX GUYS STARTED OUT ON A TWO WEEK ROAD TRIP FROM OUR WAREHOUSE IN ORLANDO, UP THE EAST COAST HITTING EVERYTHING IN THEIR WAY. THEN OFF TO CALIFORNIA TO RIDE THE "ANIMAL CHIN" OF TRAILS. CONSISTING OF WALL RIDES AND HANDRAILS ALONG WITH THE BIG DOUBLES YOU WOULD EXPECT. IF YOU SEARCH HARD ENOUGH, YOU MAY STILL BE ABLE TO FIND THEM. SO, WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN? IT MEANS YOU GET 39 MINUTES OF SOME OF THE MOST DOPE RIDING OUT THERE.
Chad DeGroot technique et cascadeur. Backwards feeble down a double kinked ledge.
Joey Garcia half barspin sur une bosse puis tailwhip guidon à l'envers sur la suivante. half barspin in rhythm then tailwhip on the next set
Dave Freimuth 180-to-sprocket-to-icepick on a wooden rail above a box jump.
Tom Haugen 360° tailwhip to x-up
Jarod Creally big feeble grind down a double kinked cement ledge.

Aaron Behnke

Mission of Nonsense" the new long expected UGP video shows the best "doublestyle" riders from today. Aaron Behnke (Street & Flat), Chad De Groot (Flat & Street), Joey Garcia (Street & Dirt) they rip in both diciplines and you can't even tell which one is better.
Music is like always very "trendy", you like it or not but the riding let you forget about that. Riders like Jim Rienstra, Jarrod Creally, John Jennings are not in many vdo's so its good to see new stuff mixed with the superstars like Brian Foster, Dave Freimuth and others.
The Flat/street/park/dirt mix is done very well and there is not much "Nonsense" in this UGP Mission. Ronnie B and Kip Lekker did a great job although I like "Face Value" better. |

Roots Jam 2001 |
www.hsacentral.com: I wasn't sure how well a video would be from just one weekend of filming but in true UGP style it turned out awesome. This video is twenty-five minutes of non-stop action and fun. It highlights the weekend's events which include the Roots Jam, the DK Dirt Circuit and a jam at Mission Park. With some interviews with riders it gives a good insight to how fun this thing was. Will Stroud and Matty Branscombe did a fine job with this project and I am sure that you'll want to go to next years Roots. A big thanks to Ronnie Bonner for making this all happen.

Roots Jam 2002 |
www.danscomp.com: Some of the most amazing riding ever captured in 3 days. Some of the top pro and underground riders came together for one weekend to participate in what has become one of the most progressive and anticipated events ever. (28 min.)
Kevin McAvoy, Transworld BMX december 2002: The Roots Jam is a unique event. So many different riders make the trek to Orlando every Spring to attend the contest, resulting in some of the best riding I've ever seen go down in one spot at one time. The UGP crew pays close attention to the course, constantly revising and morphing it into a paradise of lines that inspires the creativity of the competitors. That, combined with a relatively loose vibe, keeps people coming back year after year.
If you haven't been to a Roots Jam yet, pick up this video to see what you're missing. The DVD version even has last year's video included as well. Roots Jam 2002 also has a quick retrospective of the Jam since its inception in 1998, documenting its growth over the years. In addition to all the contest footage, there's a session at nearby Mission Skatepark, owned by Chad DeGroot and Alex Krauss. Chad and Alex are joined by guys like Dave Freimuth, Brian Vowell, Jim Cielencki, Mike Cottle, Adam Baker, Erik Abbadessa, Kevin Garwood, Kory Thibodaux, and Aaron Behnke for an awesome session.
Obvious standouts in the contest sections are Mike Aitken, Alistair Whitton, Dave Mirra, Freimuth, Vowell, Colin Mackay, and Allan Cooke, along with a score of other guys, including finalists Mike Laird, Alex Bender, Brian Foster, and Rob Nolli. Throw in a crash section, footage from the afterparty, good filming and clean edits, and you've got a great video. |
