1987 | GET STARTED RIDING BMX. Gabe Weed: I got my first real bike in the summer of 1987. I saved up money from my paper route, went to the bike store and bought a GT Performer, not knowing it was a freestyle bike. I had no idea what the pegs were used for, so I bought a BMX Plus magazine and studied it and tried to duplicate the tricks in it. I pretty much rode the first year by myself in front of my house. |

1988 | FRIENDS. I got some friends in my neighborhood to start riding with me. Then I met Andrew Arroyo and Jeff Tsai at my school. BAY AREA. I was really lucky because there were some amazing pros in the Bay Area that got together every sunday for a session at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. After watching some savvy links from names like Aaron Dull, Carly Garcia, Eric Emmerson, Pete Brandt, Drob, and Joe Paluci, my friends and I were all stoked to go home and ride hard all week. |
