FLATLAND | |
The flatland area was smooth, flat and really large. Phil Dolan beat out loads of competition to take home the largest trophy. Show oldschool de Dave Nourie. He did all his old moves, even the gumby ! Martti Kuoppa had entered in master-class, but Paul Osicka made him change his mind. He said that Martti had to enter in pro. 10th place. You can't call that a bad international debut. VERT
Dave Mirra took a big differ over the spine in the mini ramp comp and hurt his bad shoulder. He was sure he was out for at least a few weeks. He was sure of this for about one hour and then he was suddenly OK again. He went high and smooth, rode with his seemingly effortless piles of style and even did a flair. Jamie Bestwick was just flying on vert. Some of the highest airs I've ever seen were being pumped out of the English Vert Hope. One on those high airs was a 540 that didn't agree with Jamie. The ensuing argument turned into a disaster and sent Jamie smashing into the flat bottom for a real should injury (not one of those wimpy one-hour kinds). The US lost Ohio boy Colin Winkleman to a bad crash, too. MINI RAMPE
Hip, spine, sub-box. There's only one guy around today who can do every single one of today's newest lip tricks and then, in the same run, a tailwhip to pedals and a huge doulbe barspin over the spine only to finish with a bunny hop tailwhip drop in (to crash) off a tall sub box. That guy sure as hell isn't you (unless you're Dave Osato).
