Michael Steingraber, www.global-flat.com, july 2008: Round 2 of the Flatland World Circuit, the BMX Masters in Cologne, Germany took place on July 4th and 5th. As usual it was held in a big party tent on painted OSB wood surface. Never the best surface to ride on, because it is spongy, it was certainly not the worst either. The Masters organizers tried to make Flatland look even better in the media by building a round fence around the riding area. It was a nice idea for pictures, but it also minimized the riding area for practice and not everyone was happy about that. Among the 43 pro riders trying to qualify for the finals, the top ten finishers of the Voodoo Jam were present as well. Would the Japanese Voodoo winner Ucchie be able to repeat his back wheel magic and win again? Would US boy Matt Wilhelm be able to one up his second place finish with his precision spinning? Or would the new comer of 2008, Dominik Nekolny from the Chech Republic jump his front wheel switches to victory? Well, all three of them made the 14 rider final, but none of them was to be in the top three this weekend. As opposed to Voodoo Jam, the Masters were not held in a battle style format, but each rider had one run only of two and half minutes to show their skills. Terry Adams made the most of his chance, entertaining everyone with his big tricks as well as his facial expressions, earning him 3rd. Hungarys hot shot Adam Kun had a great run, pulling many original tricks and switches to prove he is worth second place in a tough final. The win went to a young rider from England who handled the pressure of qualifying in first place and stayed up there. Sam Foakes not only took first place in Cologne, but also took the lead in the ranking for 2008, just ahead of Ucchie. The FWC and KOG Finals in Tokyo in October will be very exciting and will also determine the winner of the 2008 Flatland World Circuit. Be there to witness some Flatland insanity! Bart de Jong, www.fatbmx.com, july 2008: The flatland tent was way too small to fit everybody in. If you missed it on TV we're the first to tell you that Sam Foakes from England won the flatland competition. With Scott Obrien on the mic walking around like a madman and keeping the crowd hyped the finalists got two and a half minutes each to show what they got. Matthias Dandois is new on Red Bull but could not give them a first podium yet. Third place went to RedBull rider Terry Adams who had everyone laughing with his funny faces he makes while he rides. It helped him pull the hard stuff so maybe a few people out there should try the same. Second place went to KHE rider Adam Kun from Hungary who brought some good stuff to the purple circle. Press release: The UK´s Sam Foakes dominated qualifying and finals. Last year "best trick combo" winner brought his own tricks and style to the mix. His cliffhanger and whiplash variations could not be matched. Add to this his ability to stop rolling mid-trick and throw himself into a new link and you have our first place winner! Adam Kun (HUN) always rides good at this contest, and the ?Silent Assassin" had a bag full of dialled switches to take second. The USA's Terry Adams took third, and had the crowd screaming as he threw down his trademark impossible jumping tricks like the Katrina, along with the best facial expressions in the sport! FINALS. Press release: The number of participating riders and the level of the pro street contest have never been as high as during this year's Suzuki BMXMasters. The arrangement and the choice of obstacles forced the riders to reveal the very best of their spectrum of tricks. After winning the miniramp contest Mark Webb was that enthusiastic that he seemed to fly across the track with no respect of gravity....until he crashed on his back. Some thousands of spectators didn't dare to breathe until the UK superstar stood up again under rapturous applause. He was brought to hospital, but luckily didn't injure himself severely. Daniel Dhers from Venezuela won the contest, Ben Wallace (GB) placed second and Alessandro Barbero (IT) ranked third. MINIRAMP | |
QUALIFICATIONS. Robin Fenlon, rideukbmx.com, july 2008: The qualifying for the Braun spine mini is now over and the comp was pretty nuts... A few new characters that the ramp has been missing joined in to stick a spanner in the works! Mark Webb has taken first, Daniel Dhers is second with Ben Wallace in third who had a fresh run. Ryan Guettler came in fourth followed by youngster Dennis Ennarson... The finals are going to be amazing as everyone looked a little reserved for qualifying. Miniramp pros qualifications results: 1.Mark Webb 2.Daniel Dhers 3.Ben Wallace 4.Ryan Guettler 5.Dennis Ennarson 6.Diogo Canina 7.Harry Main 8.Dave Osato 9.Chris Mahoney 10.Colin Mackay 11.Balaz Ivanti 12.Jake Toohey FINALS. Robin Fenlon, rideukbmx.com, july 2008: Finals went down on the Braun spine mini today and instead of the usual jam format that the crowds love the event opted for 1 minute runs. The whole contest was run live on Eurosport so all the runs had to be alloted strict time limitations. Obviously alot of the spine regulars were not used to this and a fall in your run pretty much meant the end of it... It all worked out in the end though. Press release: Mark Webb (UK), has ripped on the Braun Ramp since the masters began. This year he took first with decade tyretaps, crazy flair combos and more. Daniel Dhers (VEN) took second with an unbelievable bag of tricks, 720 over the spine and more, Ben Wallace (UK) rounded out the top 3 with his usual smooth style and 360 combos. For the fourth time Mark Webb took the Overall Champion of the Braun cruZer Tour. |

FINALS. Press release: Simon Tabron (UK) wins the Pro Vert final with tricks like no handed 540, massive airs and a perfect 900. Tabron is one of the few riders who show this trick consistently, and that made the difference between winning and 2nd place. In second place was Francesco ?Coco" Zurita. He showed incredible style and high airs and also did awesome double tailwhips landing smooth. In 3rd place was the bmx-legend Kevin Robinson (USA). He did a huge no handed flair, stretched superman, no handers and also managed to pull a tailwhip 540 for his best trick. One other contest highlight was the fact that Jan Valenta from (CZ) rode wearing a spiderman outfit, but he did a superman air.
