| Date: July 13-15, 2007. Cologne Jugenpark. Press release: International meeting of freestyle BMX riders: The third Suzuki BMXMasters in Cologne Jugenpark was again a great success. A total of 409 top rider from over 30 nations entered the third edition of the Suzuki BMXMasters and were amazed and cheered by over 12.000 spectateurs. Bart de Jong, www.fatbmx.com, july 2007: The BMX Masters is a huge event. It has expert classes, master classes and pro classes. And then they've got flatland, vert, street, mini and dirt. Some of them are pro-only but you get the feeling that there is some riding to take care of in one weekend. With rain on Friday that didn't help the situation but with a little improvising there's always a way to get it done. And they did. There were organized parties in a castle and in the city. Some other party happenings took place in the parking lot, the campsite, in the vending area and underneath the starting hill. The big crowd showed up on both Friday and Saturday which was nice. Too many people you only see a few times a year. It was good to catch up. THT, www.agoride.com, juillet 2007: Comme tous les ans, les masters est un des contests les plus attendus dans le monde, car tout le monde peu rouler, de 7 à 77 ans et dans toutes les catégories, flat, dirt, mini, street et Vert. Cette année mention spéciale pour le french crew qu'on a vu partout et qui a roulé bien fort. On arrive donc ce jeudi 12 juillet à Cologne, le temps n'est pas terrible, gris. On se rend sur le lieu de l'évènement, tout est prêt et le park est déjà pris d'assaut par les riders. On fait un peu le tour, on roule le park et il se met à pleuvoir. Retour à l'hôtel. Le vendredi commence sous la pluie avec des grosses ondées. Heureusement la chaleur, sèche le park et les modules rapidement, mais le programme en prend un coup dès le début. Autre petite déception, les pros US annoncés sont absents, pas de Nyquist, ni Enarson, ni Doyle. Scotty Cranmer est là, mais ne roulera pas du week-end, car il n'a récupéré son vélo que le vendredi et il n'arrive pas à se remettre du décalage horaire et dort toute la journée. |

| Press release: The flatland tent was well visited the whole weekend. Especially the finals on saturday attracted a bunch of thrilled flatland loving people to see runs of 12 finalists. With great combos such as "hitchhiker to backpacker kickflip" it was Justin Miller from the USA who took the first place. Michael Sommer (AUT) and Sam Foakes (UK) also showed very difficult combos and moves and technical perfect runs. www.fatbmx.com: After qualifying in first, Hungarian Adam Kun couldn't put it together in the finals. Justin Miller however did. The KHE/adidas rider from the USA took on the rest of the world in the well attended flatland tent at the BMX Masters in Cologne, Germany. Michael Sommer from Austria (still the current pro flatland world champ) finished second with UK's Sam Foakes in third. Armin Batoumeni, www.agoride.com, juillet 2007: Ca fait déjà plus de 20 ans que ca dure. Eh oui ça peut s'appeler BMX Masters, Championnat du monde ou autre jam, ça fait déjà plus de 20 ans que Stephan PRANTL organise des contests sur le site du JUGENPARK au bord du Rhin. Et l'expérience parle car quand on va à Cologne on a l'assurance d'assister à un événement de qualité, bien organisé et à l'atmosphère bon enfant et détendu. Avec le temps on est passé d'une petite jam à un gros événement international de référence où de gros sponsors sont présents. On notera néanmoins l'absence d'Adidas, l'un des principaux sponsors depuis plusieurs années, qui a décidé depuis quelques temps de réduire sa présence dans le BMX et se concentrer sur le marché du skateboard 10 fois plus important. Pour ce qui est de la météo, là aussi l'histoire se répète. Depuis 15 ans que je viens à Cologne c'est toujours le même scenario: temps incertain, pluvieux pendant la semaine, et le week-end tout finit bien avec un super soleil. Cette année après une semaine de merde, le week-end était marqué par de fortes chaleurs. À croire que les organisateurs sont en contact direct avec le dieu de la pluie. Pour ce qui est de l'aire de flat, après plusieurs années de calage, on a un plancher assez grand, stable, plat, le tout recouvert par une tente. Il y a de la poussière ce qui rend la surface un peu glissante, mais rien de bien grave. On ne peut pas tout avoir. On regrette par contre que l'aire de flat ait été placée au fin fond du contest, ce qui donne toujours l'impression que le FLAT est considéré comme quelque chose de secondaire. On aurait préféré être placé dans une zone plus centrale. Mais ca n'a pas empêché la présence d'un public nombreux et enthousiaste. On comptait 28 inscrits, pour 12 places en finale. Les qualifs n'ont pas été très passionnantes, beaucoup de déchets, des routines décousues, etc... Et comme chaque années certains sont déçus de ne pas être qualifié en ayant bien roulé et d'autres sont qualifiés alors qu'ils ne méritaient pas au vu de leur riding. C'est malheureusement le cas à chaque compète. C'est quelque chose que l'on peut réduire mais pas faire disparaitre. Quand on analyse la liste des riders qualifiés, on ne peut s'empêcher de se dire que la nouvelle génération est en train de prendre le contrôle: Justin MILLER, Valdemar Fatkin, Adam KUN, Mathias DANDOIS, Sam FOAKES, Shintaro MISAWA. Il suffit aussi de regarder le classement de la finale (Martti dernier) et les qualifs (Alex Jumelin, Effraim Catlow, Alexis Desolneux pas qualifiés, etc...) pour finir de se convaincre. C'est vrai que cette nouvelle génération impressionne par son niveau de riding et l'impression de facilité qui en ressort. Justin Miller qui prend la première place est en totale contrôle et semble plus détendu que lors de sa première venu il y a quelques années. Au delà de ses enchainements interminables sur l'avant on ne se lasse pas de regarder son hitchiker kickflip to backpaker. Matthias, qui n'a pas eu toute la réussite, nous sors tout de même un enchaînement de folie sur l'avant. On sent que il y a du gros potentiel chez Valdemar, il est pas mal tombé mais nous sort des perles comme son bunny hop 180 to whooper 180 to whiplash to enchainement sans fin sur l'avant. Ceux qui on vu Adam KUN practice longuement et notamment chez lui en Hongrie, savent que ce gars est trop fort, qu'il sait tout faire, qu'il apprend trop vite. Malheureusement son run n'était vraiment pas à l'image de son niveau. Sam Foakes était très impressionnant. Le petit gamin sympa et modeste est devenu un jeune homme au physique de bucheron (serrez lui la main, vous comprendrez..) et avec du gros niveau de riding. Des links en half packer, avec des variations en whip en turbine et beaucoup en backward. Il est aussi en totale maitrise sur ses links en turbine clifhanger, un petit coup de rein et je repars en avant tranquille....il méritait d'être dans les deux premiers. Sa première place au best trick contest sera une consolation. Et puis ne vous laissez pas blaser par les photos de Sam, il ne s'agit que de trick en backward, ça calme hein ? Shintaro est aussi au niveau, pas avec des tricks très spectaculaires, assez connus mais exécutés avec maitrise et style, ce qui ne gâche rien. Pour ce qui est de l'ancienne génération, C'est Michael Sommer qui prend une deuxième place que je ne trouve pas méritée. En effet Michael nous a habitué à des routines propres, même s'il tombe un peu, mais le niveau des tricks était tout de même un cran en dessous des petits jeunes. Il fini 9eme, mais tout de même un grand respect à Michaël Steingraber, car garder un niveau de pro depuis le debut des années 90, c'est en soi déjà une performance. Franck Lucas n'a pas fait évoluer sa routine et rate pratiquement tout. Sébastian avec son style tremblant caractéristique ne passe que quelques tricks. La grande déception vient de Martti qui tombe beaucoup. Le problème avec lui c'est que tout le monde en attend toujours beaucoup. Il passe beaucoup de temps à faire des fire, à tricoter, à tomber. On était loin du Martti des X-Games. Mais ne l'enterrons pas trop vite, à sa décharge il souffrait de mal de dos important, avec prise de cachet tranquillisant avant le Run. Sans compter qu'après avoir tout gagné il avoue après son run qu'il n'est pas très motivé ses temps-ci. Après tant d'années la routine des compètes le gave un peu. Et puis si le retrait d'Adidas se confirme aussi au niveau du sponsoring des riders, cela signifiera que son soutient financier principal disparait. Une raison de plus de le motiver de ne pas venir au compètes. En attendant il ira se ressourcer en Thaïlande des le mois d'aout pour y donner des cours de FLAT pendant trois mois. |

| QUALIFICATIONS. Bart de Jong, www.fatbmx.com, july 2007: It was packed at in Cologne as soon as the Street/Park qualifiers started. The sun had come out in Koellefornia and it's always a good scene with the crowd surrounding the course. Mark Webb qualified in first but won't be able to ride the finals because of a broken arm. This moved Joris Coulomb from France into the 12 rider final cut and makes Jason Phelan from Ireland the first reserve in case someone else gets injured. Other finalitsts are: Ryan Elcock, Louis Smith, Maxime Cherveron, Leon Perkins, Kevin Kalkhoff, Allan Cooke, Ben Wallace and Alessandro Barbero. Top finishers in qualifying were Bjorn Mager (with a flip double whip) and Daniel Dhers (double whips, 3-whips and inverted flairs). The finals should be good. THT, www.agoride.com, juillet 2007: Samedi, le soleil est là et dès le matin, il fait très chaud. C'est le jour des qualifs pro street. Pas mal de gars sont là, Alan Cook représente les USA, une armada d'anglais, des Allemands, mexicains, Tchèque, hollandais, suédois et nos petits français. Un des premiers à passer est L'allemand Bommel qui annonce la couleur à tout le monde avec un flip double whip nickel. Ensuite on a tous les styles des riders tech, des qui font des lignes bien speed et ceux qui envoi du gros. A ce petit jeu là un anglais nous sortira le plus gros transfert du jour du quarter au plan incliné quasi vertical à près de 10m l'un de l'autre. Du double whip en veux tu en voilà avec Daniel Dehr, Alessandro Barbero, etc... Les sessions gaps sont pour l'Irlandais Jason Phelan qui gap le haut du curb wall en 360 et à Louis Smith qui se le fait en whip. Mike Miller lui va très haut sur le box et fait des 180 à plus de 2m au dessus de ce module, qu'il ne replaquera pas. A un moment on appelle notre Charveron national, qui se fait un peu attendre. Il part et là il ère comme une âme en peine sur le park, tout perdu, il cherche ces lignes, il passe de bons tricks, mais rien de transcendant. Quand soudain il s'élance à mach 5 sur le curve wall, qu'il passe complètement ressort vers le wall en grillage qu'il tape avec une sortie whip puis direction le volcano barrière qu'il passe en hand plant pour finir sur un gros flair sur le quarter. Ce fût la ligne magique du jour et son ticket pour la finale. Olivier Poinsignon, soulbmx.com, july 2007: Samedi 14 Juillet, fête nationale de la France, je l’ai oubliée sur le moment … faut voir l’ambiance, avec leur cris les allemands toujours excités auront réussis à rendre le feeble de la final Girl incroyable. Vienne ensuite les qualifications street des pros… Allen Cooke muni d’un joli vélo rose fait son flip x-up one foot. Cameron Hardy dans un style bien à lui tricote sur le sub rail et sort un gros flair l’air de rien. Alex Valentino fait le tour du parc sur les mains et Mike Miller lui lâche les siennes à 4 bons mètres du sol. Notre Maxime Charveron se la donne en premier dans le gros wall Suzuki et enchaîne avec un wall whip. Le tchèque Mike Beran la joue gros dur avec un flip double whips de porc et des flairs aussi hauts que bas ! Scottie Cranmer et Chris Doyle ne roulent pas… l’un se serait fait piquer son vélo et l’autre aurait loupé son avion. Le duel Webb/Cranmer n’aura pas lieu, Webb fait donc la démo une fois de plus seul dans sa poule et seul sur le parc. FINALS. He went to bed at 9:30pm every night and simply never woke up to a state where he could ride. He missed the Braun Spine contest and also street. It would have been good to see how he'd done among the Euro shredders, the Mexicans, Allan Cooke and Daniel Dhers. It wasn't meant to be. He made the trip to Germany to sleep. Sounds like a waste. And so did the riders.The level was raised. Where does it stop? Press release: No doubt, one of the absolute highlights of this year´s Suzuki BMXMasters were once again the pro street finals at sunday afternoon. In a burning heat the pro BMX riders fought a real trick marathon. While in the last year still "double tailwhips" impressed the spectateurs, BMX riders like Ben Wallace amazed the crow now with the triple edition – the "triple tailwhip". Also Alessandro Barberos (IT) ambitous and impressive tricks such as "backflip tailwhip" over the box, Allan Cookes (USA) "backflip x-up nofoot " or Michael Berans (CZ) "frontflip tailwhip" were celebrated by the spectators loudly. With a spectacular run Daniel Dhers from Venezuela could save the first place before the Ben Wallace (UK). Alessandro Barbero (IT) who took first place in 2006 became third. Olivier Poinsignon, soulbmx.com, july 2007: Dimanche 15 Juillet,14h la final pro street va commencer, Wade ne pouvant pas rouler c’est logiquement le suivant de la liste qui prend sa place et donc Joris Coulomb qui fait un super run sur l’ensemble de l’air de street. Chris Mahoney roule malgré sa blessure… flair turndown !normal !Les runs s’enchaînent à vive allure et le last trick fait office de best trick. Leon Perkins l’a bien compris et v’a donc chercher le transfert le plus long du parc avec un bon 15 mètres un peut en sprocket (un membre des riders mexicains avait comme le dit si bien David Vernois déjà « jouer sa vie » sur ce transfert en le rentrant très à l’arrache) tout le monde croise les doigts et sert les fesses… et ça passe tout seul. Notre French Maxime déchire à nouveau avec un start en gros front et un last tricks se résumant à une ligne de ouf… transfert courbe du sol au wall Suzuki enchaîné avec un wall whip un hand plant sur le sub rail et enfin un bon gros flair. Le tchèque Michael beran lui remet un flip double whip et essaye même un front whip qui aurait bien pu être rentré. Barbero le précèdent vainqueur des Bmx masters replaque aux deuxième essai un whip to whip back, Ben Wallace son premier triple whip en parc et Daniel Dhers après un petit pied en front 360 (probablement le seul pied posé depuis le début des masters) se jettera sur son très beau et très replaqué surtout … truckdriver to whip. Final street pro s’achève sans la participation de Mark Webb,snif ! THT, www.agoride.com, juillet 2007: On a 3 français en finale, mais Kevin Kalkoff déclarera forfait suite à une chute pendant les qualifs la veille. On retrouve ainsi 12 riders qui passeront par groupes de 3. Au niveau des gros tricks Leon Perkins nous fera le big transfert des qualifs en plus propre. Joris Coulomb nous rentre un beau transfert en downside whip. Michael Beran passe double whip flip et un front flip whip quasi rentré. Bommel rentrera un Bike flip, Maxime Charveron, nous refera sa ligne magique plus un gros front flip et un énorme transfert vers le curve wall qu'il passera pas. Alessandro Barbero passe whip to whip back, Ben Wallace rentre un triple whip et enfin Daniel Dehr flair no hand, 360 flip et whip to bus. |

Olivier Poinsignon, soulbmx.com, july 2007: Vendredi 13 Juillet, les qualifications de la mini rampe (de la dernière étape du Braune mini cruzer tour) se font avec plus de 2h de retards. Les practices annoncaient déjà la couleur. Stefan Lantschner marque bien ses lignes et remplace Ben Hennon pour les grosses hauteurs, pendant son run entre ses turndowns et ces gros airs bourrés de style, il sort un air to footjam qui fait mal à voir ! I LIKE IT !Barry Kohne lui n’attend pas de passer les finales pour tenter son traditionnel flip to fufanu qu’il ne rentrera malheureusement pas. Alex Valentino ne passe pas les qualifs mais posera tout de même un énorme 360 to fackie sortie de nulle part. Chris Mahoney roule comme d’habitude quoi qu’il arrive (pied cassé au Nass il y a deux semaines), JB Peytavit fait bonne impression avec son riding toujours aussi propre (attention aux practices le truckdriver était danger de mort sur le spine). Dehrs calme avec sa routine de flair table et alleyoop flair. Pendant la période de folie une personne X se jette en facki frontflip, de quoi mettre un peut plus d’huile sur le feu, ensuite Webb s’attribue la fin des qualifs avec une bonne démo d’une demie heure… trick vu au Nas mais ça fait du bien: whip to tailtap to bunywhip to tail tap to whip drop ! okay ? THT, www.agoride.com, juillet 2007: Vendredi, le contest commence enfin avec le soleil qui pointe son nez et qui sera là tout le week-end. Les qualif pro dirt étant reportées pour cause de terrain humide, les grosses cascades de la journée se feront sur la mini avec les Qualif pro et là on n'est pas déçu, on retrouve le même plateau qu'au Fise avec Mark Webb, Ben Wallace, Chris Mahoney qui a le pied cassé, Daniel Dehr, Kevin Kalkoff, Phill Aller, Barry Kohne et vient en plus Mickael Beran, JB Peytavit, Pascal Bacuet, Stephan Lantschner, bref un bon plateau de riders. L'italien Stephan Lantschner envoi des pires hauteurs, Ben Wallace tape de 360 extrem nose dive sur le spine et Le Tchèque Mickael Beran qui n'a que 16 ans envoi des 360 whip sur le spine. Comme d'habitude celui qui met le feu, c'est Mark Webb, il place un trick sur chaque courbe, un truc de fou, en un run il fait 3 fois plus de trick que les autres. Le vénézulien Daniel Dehr envoi lui aussi du très gros avec ses fameux double whip, flair invert ou alley oops flair. Tout ça sent bon pour la finale. FINALS. Press release: One highlight of this years Suzuki BMXmasters was the final of the Braun cruZer tour 2007, which was held on the massive Braun spine ramp. The 12 competing finalists gave the public what they wanted to see – BMX riding on the highest level. Already in the first runs the pro rider showed tricks such as a "nohanded flair" from Mark Webb (UK), "cancan latewhip" from Daniel Dhers (VEN) or the "fufanu on the backrail" from Phil Aller (UK). Ben Wallace who impressed the audience and the judges with tricks like a "double downsidewhip" took first place. In the last heat of the three favorites Webb, Wallace and Dhers Mark Webb crashed after trying a 900 and broke his arm. Anyhow he landed on third place behind Daniel Dhers and could again become overall champion of the Braun cruZer tour. Olivier Poinsignon, soulbmx.com, july 2007: Samedi 14 Juillet,19h30 tout le monde a envahi la mini Braun, à croire que c’est le moment le plus attendu du week-end ! Trop de photographes et de riders sur la même plateforme, la finale ne commencera pas tant qu’il y aura autant de gens sur la mini. Chacun trouve sa place et les runs commencent, besoin de grand angle pour les airs de Stefan Lantschner. Tony Watkinson enchaîne les doubles whips avec son slim aux genoux, Pascal Bacuet roule avec beaucoup d’amplitude et un style bien à lui. Vient le tour de Phil Aller qui rentre une fois de plus son blunt sur la barrière,c’est répétitif mais toujours aussi bon et impressionnant, Ben Wallace en 360surnosedive one hand facile avec des passages de spine en aliwhip. Vient le tour de Daniel Dhers qui s’était entraîné un chouilla plus tôt pour un flair condor, run complet … 540 whip, flair table, indian air to whip… bref ! Le tout dernier rider à passer et actuellement premier au classement Braun cruzer tour c’est Mark Webb et il est très chaud ! Premier Run très long et à vive allure ! flair turndown, flair x-up, truckdriver et j’en passe vous savez comme il roule maintenant. 2ème run le temps de passer le spine et de faire un 360 whip et vient la chute en 900flat spin. Grand silence on redoute le pire… le bras cassé nous n’aurons donc pas droit à un nouveau tricks comme il le préparait. La soirée se termine sur un whip to over icepick bien millimétré et répété de Ben Wallace. Nick Warren, july 2007: A broken arm didn’t stop Mark Webb from claiming his third Braun cruZer Tour championship at the final round at the Suzuki BMX Masters in Cologne, Germany. Thousands of partisan spectators from across Europe watched the Braun Mini Ramp’s last outing for 2007 and their enthusiastic support inspired the riders to new heights. Webb was displaying the awesome class that won him the 2005 and 06 Braun cruZer Tours, but crashed heavily halfway through his second run and immediately knew he had snapped his forearm. “My arm is broken,” he announced from the bottom of the ramp. “Tell someone it’s snapped!” However, his trick-laden first run on the Braun cruZer Mini Spine was enough to earn him third place on the day. Ben Wallace (GBR) won the leg, nailing a Tailwhip to tap on the spine and picking up enough points to tie him with Webb on the overall rankings. In this situation, the title is decided on count-back and as Webb had won previous rounds at the FISE in Montpellier, France and the NASS in Somerset, Great Britain, he was judged champion for 2007. Daniel Dhers (VEN) was second in Cologne with a large Double Tailwhip over the spine and a No-Handed Flair to finish third overall on the Tour. Taking fourth on the Tour standings was Briton Chris Mahoney who rode the Suzuki BMX Masters with probable fractures in his foot. In obvious pain, Mahoney was dubbed “Broken Foot Mahoney” by the event commentator but knocked out numerous one-footed tricks, capping off his run with an outstretched superman that had the crowd cheering for more. “I’m not sure if it’s broken,” Mahoney said. “I haven’t had it x-rayed yet, but it was all worth it.” Phil Aller’s (GBR) was fifth overall thanks to his neat nose-spins on the spine while the ever-improving Tony Watkinson (GBR) was sixth. Ben Hennon (GBR) was unable to take part in Cologne, but still took seventh ahead of Germany’s Mark König. French duo Kevin Kalkoff (FRA) and Jean-Baptiste Peytavit (FRA) were ninth and tenth respectively. THT, www.agoride.com, juillet 2007: Dans cette finale on a 2 français, Pascal bacuet et Jb Peytavit. Sur cette Mini tout les styles s'affrontent, le king of smooth revient à l'italien Stefan Lantschner, qui finira 12e. En 11e place on retrouve le tchèque Ondra Slez pour qui se sera whip 3.6 sur le spine et flair. 10e Pascal Bacuet qui nous fera les plus gros 360 sur le spine et tentera le double whip en courbe. En 9 vient Mark Köning, le roi du tech qui passera ses nose pick whip et tooth pick au premier coup. 8e Mickael Beran, qui raccroche en peu sur ses 360 whip sur le spine et enchaîne les double whips et flair. Il finira par une tentative de front flip, bref un vol plané to plat dos. 7e JB Peytavit, qui nous passe truck driver, double whip, donwside whip suivit de oppo downside whip et un drop en whip du sub box. 6e Tony Watkinson passe des double whip, double whip to tail tap, whip to tail tap sorti invert et finira son run avec un bunny whip to 360 tail tap to whip out. 5e, c'est Phil Aller toujours avec ses gros 360 spine, 360 turndown, whip to ice pick, Ice pick grind to manual et son fameux fufanu barrière posé au deuxième essai. 4e, Chris "broken foot" Mahoney, qui malgré son pied fracturé au Nass la semaine d'avant envoi des one hand one foot ultra strech, du flair, du whip et son fameux flair turndown surpoussé. Le dernier groupe à passer était composé de Daniel Dehr, Ben Wallace et Mark Webb. Ben attaque fort avec de magnifique 360 vertical nose dive, le même x-up, sur look back, no hand condor. Le vénézuélien, lui attaque avec un 360 whip sur le spine, puis double whip, puis truck driver, flair. Mark Webb attaque son run à 200 km/h. 360 x-up, puis 360 no hander, des flair, flair x-up, double whip to tail tap, Flair to 540 tail tap to whip out. C'est de la folie. Wallace envoi la sauce, avec Ali whip sur le spine, double whip, enchaîné avec double donwside whip. Daniel monte aussi le niveau avec flair no hander, flair invert, double whip, 3.6 double whip et 5.4 whip. Mark Webb s'élance gros 3.6 x-up sur le spine, bus , 3.6 spine, flair, repasse le spine prend son élan du côté du sub box, passe le spine et envoi son 900 flat spine et chute. Verdict Bras cassé. Cela jette un froid sur le contest. La finale se terminera sur un run de Wallace, bien calmé ave une beau whip to over ice pick to over et Daniel Dehr avec un passage en 3.6 double whip, suivi d'un double whip, suivi d'un flair. Tout le monde est un peu triste par le dénouement de cette finale qui verra donc Webb 3e, Dehr 2e et Wallace premier. |

| Bart de Jong, www.fatbmx.com, july 2007: On Friday before the contest fellow jump builder Benny Paulsen estimated a 10 rider field for dirt. The set up was gnarly and people who had entered (48 pro riders) did not have much time to get used to the course. Making it to the end of the course wasn't easy but when it mattered, 33 riders rode, which was a decent number. Respect to all who had the balls to drop in from that 5 meter high platform and made it to the last set. Ryan "Biz" Jordan felt some pressure as his sponsor Volume/Demolition was supporting the event and fellow team mates Dennis Enarson and Chris Doyle did not make it to Cologne for different reasons. This left Biz with a lot of weight on his shoulders. Normally this results in Biz freezing up but in Cologne it was a different story. He made it work, blasted the highest airs over the first hip and came out the winner. Congrats. Ricardo Laguna whipped and lookbacked through the sets and on the last set he pulled no-handed backflips and flipwhips as well. It was good to see him do well as he is becoming a Europe-regular. Another rider who goes for all or nothing is Patrick Guimez. He climbed on the podium at the end of the day which made the Frenchman smile. The Dirt posse had built a bar next to the starting platform out of dirt and had a little party with special drinks on Saturday night. Bibi was bartending and shooting a lot of covers (for whatever papparazzi magazine). Some French pro flatlander could not handle the drinks too well and Christian thought he became a pro street rider and wanted to jump a sketchy jump set up (flat table) "to whip." With everyone cheering him on he managed to clear the drop but the whip was still missing. Anyway, back tot he dirt comp. Bibi finished 4th and probably scored a cover or two himself. Liam Eltham has got stile for miles and skills to pay the bills. 5th for the UK rider. Allan Cooke rode straight over to the dirt section after pro street finals. Allan's always a top 10 contender in whatever he enters. It was hot in Koellefornia. You were sweating just standing around. Now imagine, riding pro street finals and then a pro dirt contest straight afterwards. Respect. 6th for the Pink Merlion. The man who must have received plenty of comments about the jumps this weekend finished in 7th. Markus Hampl is a rider who doesn't seem to stress. He knew his jumps were well built and his friends could jump them too even if he was the only rider who had made it to the end on Friday. On Saturday the jumps were still a little soggy but after two days of sunshine it got a lot better. Some skinny wooden sheets were layed on top of a couple of take-offs and some landings saw some ruts at the end of the day but the 33 people who entered showed that he was right. Markus finished 7th in front of Dropsy, Kye Forte and Vincent "Fronty" Massardier. Press release: The dirt parcours planned and built again by Markus Hampl (GER) and Benny Paulsen (GER) had a positive impact on riders and also on the audience, since you could watch much better. In the finals on Sunday afternoon the american guy Ryan Biz Jordan showed spectacular tricks such as "360 whip " and "tailwhip backflip" and achieved the first place before Ricardo Laguna (USA) and Patrick Guimez (FRA). Olivier Poinsignon, soulbmx.com, july 2007: Dimanche 15 Juillet ,16h le dirt enfin depuis le temps qu’on attend, les qualifications se sont faites naturellement, le drop in de 2m50, puis les riders qui arrivent à aller jusqu’au bout puis les très fort qui arrivent à mettre des tricks. Un moment de dirt bien fort mais difficilement regardable si comme moi vous étiez au départ dans la petite forêt. Ryan Jordan fait la différence depuis le début. THT, www.agoride.com, juillet 2007: Il y a plein de français, les tricks ne sont pas exceptionnels mais les bosses sont vraiment énormes, donc difficile de se lâcher et difficile de tout voir, car la ligne est vraiment longue. C'est Ryan Biz Jordan qui remporte le contest avec des 720 bien propres, Ricardo Laguna fait 2 et Pat Guimez fait 3. |

| QUALIFICATIONS. Bart de Jong, www.fatbmx.com, july 2007: 14 riders climbed on top of the vert ramp in Cologne for the Pro halfpipe contest. Among those riders legend Mat Hoffman. He had not ridden proper vert in over 6 months due to a knee injury and was a bit out of shape but as soon as the HDT shirt was on his shoulders he got his wings back and fired out trick after trick. In practice he dislocated his toe (I'd never heard of that one) and simply taped two toes together with some duct-tape so he could ride. His pads and shoes had not made it (lost by the airlines) so he was using all new equipment. Mat's a legend and for the other 13 riders it was an honour to have a session with the Condor. Twelve riders made it to the finals but the organization is giving the other two riders an opportunity to join the final session with Mat. FINALS. Bart de Jong, www.fatbmx.com, july 2007: Fourteen riders showed up to ride the vert ramp at the Suzuki BMX Masters. Not a whole lot but for a vert competition these days it was quite a turnout. The vert discipline is still one of the favorites for the crowd, especially when Mat Hoffman and Simon Tabron drop in. The two are living (vert) legends and the chance to see them ride in the flesh needs to be taken. A lot of people did, which was a good way to end the 2007 Masters. Daniel Dhers decided to join the fun and entered his first vert contest ever. After a second place on mini and a first in street, Daniel had nothing to lose and just rolled in for the fun of it. His type of fun doesn't end with X-up airs though. He did whips, double whips, MX airs, no-handers and flairs and ended his runs with a couple of X-ups, some in alley-oop mode. Daniel qualified in third but ended up in fourth in the finals. Still, not bad considering it was his first real halfpipe competition. It was Matt Fairbairn from Australia who squeezed into second place on Sunday. He showed tabled 540-s, x-ups to barspin to x-ups, suicide nohanders and everything else at height. The Condor got third but contest placings aren't what he's riding for. He likes to ride with his friends and if that means he has to fly across the pond to do it, he will. It was his first time on the ramp in 6 months and he was afraid that the crowd and the riders would push him into doing stuff he had not done in a while. Knowing Mat, that is always the case. He drops in and he probably doesn't know what to do on his 3rd wall. He fires something out and the crowd gets to see another classic Mat Hoffman variation. Mat has nothing to prove and it's good to see he hangs it all out regardless. It's a good mortivation for all BMX riders to step it up on the vert. It might become a real important discipline in the future. Press release: The vert comps amazed judges and spectators. High-class vert riders around Simon Tabron (UK), Daniel Dhers (VEN) and of course Condor Mat Hoffmann (USA) flew high on saturday and sunday and came up with a huge trick repertoire: "no hand to barspin 540 air", "barspin flair" and "900 " were just some highlights of the vert competition. Although Mat Hoffmann had to give the victory to Simon Tabron and landed third placed after Matt Fairbairn (AUS) because of a crash, his participation at the contest was not just cheered like crazy but also amazed everybody – since he is the best BMX rider ever! Il fait chaud mais tous les riders sont décidés à faire le spectacle. Pascal Bacuet « maximum respect » aura rouler le street, la mini, le dirt et même la vert avec une bonne moyenne si on regarde bien. Pour les riders vert ça ne rigole donc pas… bus to bus, 540 bus to xup, 900 (dont un qui enverra un rider chez le dentiste), Hoffman fait sa routine et se relève de ses grosses chutes ,CE TYPE EST INCROYABLE ! turndown cancan, candy bar et autres tricks bien à lui. La fin aproche et les dernier tricks sont de plus en plus fat, Daniel Dhers est de la partie avec son petit bowl, il roule comme en mini c’est dingue. Triple bus ! bus to bus to xup et flair to bus… pesé ,emballé,ficelé c’est parti j’en ai pris plein les yeux je rentre chez moi. A l’année prochaine ! Matt Hoffman fait toujours sa routine bien propre, Daniel Dehr qui fait son premier contest de vert passe des whip, flair et double whip, mais manque un peu de hauteur. L'australien Matt Fairbairn sort bien haut et nous passera un magnifique double bus bien speed. Les plus gros tricks reviennent à Jan Valenta avec un flair bus driver et Simon Tabron, avec un 540 no hander to bus et un 900 ultra propre. |
