| With hometown bike vert hero Kevin Robinson scoring huge points with a no-handed flair amongst many other tricks, the partisan Rhode Island crowd sensed history in the making. And while Robinson's score would be good enough for him to make it to the podium, it just wasn't enough to overcome a sensational performance by '99 champ Jamie Bestwick. Bestwick, who had to settle for second last year to Dave "Miracle Boy" Mirra (who had to sit out this year with a knee injury), overcame an impressive final run by Robinson to post a near-perfect run of 95.20 to win the gold. And while the battle focused around Bestwick and Robinson, there were plenty of other storylines. Bronze medalist Simon Tabron threw out a huge run highlighted by his signature 900. Long time bike vert star Dennis McCoy showed that he wasn't willing to settle for anything but a medal by attempting his own 900 but came up short on the rotation and smacked his shoulder so hard that he lay prone on the ramp and sent shivers through the crowd and his competitors. But in typical Gravity Games spirit, all the athletes rallied to his side, and minutes later McCoy was back on the ramp bandaged and rooting Robinson and Bestwick on.
