In the finals, Dave turned it up and took home the W with Scotty taking the Deu. press release: September 11, 2005 – San Jose, CA – Dave Mirra, 31, of Greenville, N.C., today took home his first win at the Dew Action Sports Tour, placing first in the BMX Park competition. Mirra’s backflip tailwhip over the spine in his first run helped to earn him a winning score of 92.25. The higher score of two runs is taken to determine the rider’s final score. “I did what I wanted to do,” said Mirra, who now sits in fifth place in the Tour’s BMX Park standings with 176 points. “Heading into Orlando, I’m able to creep back into the points race. Every Tour stop is a building block. You have got to come out strong from the start and finish even stronger. [Second place finisher Scotty] Cranmer is the future of this sport. He is an amazing athlete and he gave me a run for my money.” Scotty Cranmer, 18, of Jackson, N.J. edged 26-year-old Los Gatos, Calif. native Ryan Nyquist for the second place spot with a score of 90.50. Nyquist’s first run earned him an 89.75, which he was not able to improve upon after getting a flat tire in his second run. In the overall BMX Park standings, Cranmer sits in second with 254 points while Nyquist is in third with 226 points. In first place is Australia’s Ryan Guettler sits in first place with 312 points. Guettler took fifth in today’s BMX Park finals. Ricardo Laguna pulled something, tail whip, backflip x-up earning a score of 83.50. Allan Cooke pulled something, tailwhip, truck driver no hander earning a score of 86.25. Ryan Nyquist pulled a backflip one handed x-up to 360 no handed to 720 earning a score of 91.00. Gary Young pulled a table top, 360, tail whip 360 to earn a score of 86.50. Colin MacKay pulled a 360, tail whip, 1-footed 360 earning a score of 80.00. Steve McCann, although he was at the event suffered a broke wrist and was not able to ride. So next up Cameron White pulled a backflip, double tail whip, 360 turndown earning a score of 87.00. Rounding out Heat 1 was suppose to be Corey Bohan but he had some bike problems and got bumped to the second heat. The final rundown was 10th to 1st: Nastazio (85.25), Murray (85.63), Cooke (86.00), Gerber (86.75), Doyle (88.13), White (88.25), Bohan (89.75), Nyquist (91.50), Parslow (92.75) and Guettler (93.63). www.foxracing.com, september 2005: Brian Foster crashed hard in the weather-delayed practice session ending his weekend with a badly rung bell, some scrapes and scabs, and a night in the worst hotel known to mankind…The San Jose Hospital. Doctor’s orders have him off his bike for another 5 weeks due to a crack in his skull…no kidding. Corey Bohan remains in 2nd place in the Dirt Jump points. He placed 4th in the finals after some bike mechanicals that were out of his control. The bike was fixed, some stress was added, and he came home with a Quattro. press release: Ryan Guettler, 22, of Brisbane, AUS earned his third consecutive victory in the BMX Dirt competition on September 9 after being knocked unconscious during a practice run. He was released by paramedics and bested the field with a final score of 93.63, an average of his best two of three runs. His final run was highlighted by a one-handed front flip. Fellow Australian Luke Parslow placed second with an average score of 92.75 in BMX Dirt. Parslow, who has consistently improved at each stop of the Dew Action Sports Tour, now sits in eighth place in the BMX Dirt standings. Ryan Nyquist finished third with an average score of 91.50. In his third run, Nyquist executed a double barspin backflip. Nyquist was in 14th place in the BMX Dirt standings coming into the Toyota Challenge and now stands in sixth place. |

| Prelims Cathy Bluem, www.fatbmx.com, september 2005: Highlights from Prelims for both runs included Harrington pulling an awesome superman seat grab, no hander and a barspin, barspin to ice pick and a tail whip to earn himself a score of 78.75. Tom Haugen pulled a tail whip, barspin, double bar spin, another double barspin to tire-tap barspin earning himself a high score of 82.00. Jay Miron pulled a tail whip, tail whip, 360, 540, superman, tail whip, ice pick, nose pick and in his second run he pulled a.flair! Which I guess he hadn't pulled in a long time which earned him his high score of 84.75. John Parker pulled tail whip, attempted a flair but fell, got up and pulled a no-hander, barspin, and in his second run pulled a tail whip 360, and downside tail whip which got him a score of 87.25. I missed Chad Kag's first and part of his second runs but in his second he pulled a nice double tail whip over the channel, which got him a score of 90.25. Rounding out the first heat of prelims was Jamie Bestwick who pulled a flair over the channel, double tail whip, flair, opposite flair, ally-oop 540, and another 540 which got him a score of 94.75. Highlights for both runs from the second heat of prelims included Dennis McCoy pulling a flair over the channel, 540, peg grind earning himself a score of 87.00 as he didn't take his second run. Dave Mirra pulled an opposite 1-footed X-Up Flair and a regular flair, tail whip flair and tail whip which got him a score of 83. 50. There was some controversy because his second run was basically as everyone put it a *one* trick run and came in with a score of 86 something which would have put him in a tie for 6th, but it ended up his score was entered incorrectly and as a result he missed making the finals by one spot. Kevin Robinson pulled a flair, opposite flair, peg grind and more flairs which earned him a score of 86.75. www.foxracing.com, september 2005: Dave Mirra failed to qualify for Vert. He crashed hard twice eliminating himself from the finals. There was a bit of drama to it though, they called him as 6th overall, then re-called him as 11th. Odd…. Finals. Mancuso pulled a no handed flair in his run to help himself to a score of 84.75. Walker pulled an awesome flair, bar spin, superman, no handed flair, 2 flairs in a row, tail whip, flair over channel and another bar spin to get himself a score of 87.00. Simon Tabron pulled multiple bar spin variations, 360 something, no handed 540, tail whip and flair earning a score of 89.75. Dennis McCoy pulled a 540 barspin to help himself to a score of 88.50. John Parker for his first run pulled a superman, tail whip, 540, flair, double tail whip getting himself a score of 89.25. Kagy pulled a barspin, barspin taiwlhip (he's the only rider pulling that trick right now), double tail whip, flair and peg grind earning himself a score of 87.50. Rounding out run 1 was Bestwick who pulled a 540 alley-op, flair, some foot flair combo, opposite flair, can-can look back alley-op and a downside tail whip flair to get himself a score of 94.50. Starting their second runs was Mancuso who pulled a 540 tail whip in his run to help himself to a score of 86.25. Walker included a flair and tail whip in his second run to get a score of 87.50. Tom Stober for his second run pulled a flair and fell on a double tail whip attempt to get himself a score of 84.25. Kevin Robinson's second run was sensational and included a flair over the channel but he fell hard during his second run and ended up knocking himself out for a good period of time. The medical staff of course was right there and so was Bestwick, Kagy and Ryan Nyquist, who all kept yelling at Kevin to stay awake, but Kevin was taken out on a stretcher and reportedly life-vaced (ie helicopter) to a local hospital for further examination. The following day though he was okay enough to fly home and by Sunday when I talked to Kagy, he was at home resting and his wife Robin was taking care of him, its sooo good to hear a happy outcome of one of the scariest falls I've ever witnessed. Back to the action at hand, Dennis McCoy came out for his second run and pulled a 540, flair over the channel to earn himself a score of 87.50. Parker's second run was a turndown, barspin, table-top, tail whip, another tail whip, and superman all of which helped him to a score of 87.50. Kagy's second run included a double tail whip over the channel, flair over channel, double bar spin to get a score of 89.50. Bestwick, already having the win, for his second run just went out and had some fun pulling the biggest airs of the night and an opposite flair and tail whip before calling it quits. Bestwick’s best run, his first of the evening, was filled with a difficult mix of tricks, including an Alley-oop 540 to earn a score of 94.50. He also finished first at the Vans® Invitational last month and at the Right Guard Open in June. Bestwick currently sits in 1st place in the points standings with 300 total points. Finishing in second in BMX Vert finals was Kevin Robinson, of East Providence, RI, with a score of 91.25. Robinson finished first at the Panasonic Open, sixth at the Right Guard Open, and second at the Vans® Invitational. He currently trails Bestwick by five points in the Dew Action Sports Tour BMX Vert points standings. Simon Tabron, of Liverpool, GBR, rounded out the top three in BMX Vert with a score of 89.75. Tabron finished third at the Panasonic Open and fourth at the Right Guard Open. He missed the Vans® Invitational due to injury. | DEW ACTION SPORTS TOUR FEATURES BMX RACING, A 2008 OLYMPIC SPORT Press release: The Dew Action Sports Tour, the first-ever, season-long multi-sport professional tour in action sports, will host the International Cycling Union (UCI) BMX Supercross World Cup Finals as the specialty competition at the Toyota Challenge on Friday, September 9 in San Jose, CA. The fourth stop of the Dew Action Sports Tour, the Toyota Challenge takes place September 8-11 at San Jose’s HP Pavilion, and features professional competitions in skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross. The event also includes a Festival Village with interactive courses, video gaming and athlete autograph sessions. "With the inclusion of BMX racing at the 2008 Olympics, we are excited to host UCI BMX Supercross, the first event ever to be presented in the race format we can expect in the 2008 Olympics," said Wade Martin, general manager of the Dew Action Sports Tour. "The movement of action sports into the Olympic games further legitimizes their popularity, as well as the true sportsmanship involved." The previous round of UCI BMX Supercross, the World Cup, was held in Aigle, Switzerland in June, where Robert De Wilde/Staats (Netherlands) grabbed the 1st place podium spot in front of Cristian Becerine/Crupi (Argentina) and Randy Stumpfhauser/GT-Hyundai (USA). Nicknamed the Flyin' Dutchman, De Wilde faces stiff competition from Stumpfhauser, the newly crowned 2005 UCI BMX World Champion Bubba Harris/Redline (USA), Mike Day/Staats (USA) and 75 other hungry pro riders gunning for the BMX SX title at the Dew Action Sports Tour’s Toyota Challenge. All the action takes place the afternoon of Friday, September 9, with Semi-Finals and Finals scheduled for 4:30-5:15 PM PDT. The Dew Action Sports Tour features intense competition in the three BMX disciplines that are featured at all five Tour stops. Ryan Guettler has the most points in the BMX Park discipline, with Scotty Cranmer and Steven McCann in second and third place respectively. Guettler also leads the race for points in BMX Dirt, but is trailed closely by fellow Australian Corey Bohan. Chris Doyle is currently in third in BMX Dirt. In BMX Vert, Kevin Robinson leads the points race, but is followed by Jamie Bestwick, Dave Mirra and Chad Kagy. All three athletes fall within 27 points of Robinson. The Toyota Challenge also welcomes four cutting edge bands to the Festival Village’s music stage. On Friday, September 9, Puddle of Mudd with The Prom Kings will perform and on Saturday, September 10, Chevelle will take the stage with A Change of Pace as the opening act. Both concerts will run from 9-11 PM. BMX Supercross will make its debut as a Olympic medal sport in Beijing in 2008. De Wilde, also known as the “Flying Dutchman,” captured the title with a final time of 30.091 seconds. Luke Madill, 25, of Australia finished second with 31.928 while Montgomery, Tex. native Kyle Bennett, 25, came in third with a time of 32.717. A total of 48 riders competed.
