Leon "Sandwichboy" van Hees, www.fatbmx.com: Every year there is a big bicycle trade show called Bike in Birmingham England. Loads of bicycle brands (mostly mountainbike brands) and shops show their stuff and their teams give demo's. Every year they invite some of the top USA riders to come over and show their stuff together with the top of the U.K. riders. This year was my first time there so I can't say whether the pro lineup was any good compared with the previous years but I sure as hell liked it!!! Rooftop, Ron Kimler, Nate Wessel, Steve Crandall, Mike Tag, Joe Rich, Luc-E, Matt Beringer, Fids, John Taylor, Ian Morris, Jerry Galley and a lot more who's names I can't remember anymore!! There was a street course with jumpbox, wallride, spines and lots of quarters. There also was a vert ramp. Ron Kimler was doing truckdrivers and all sorts of 360's over the jumpbox as well as toothpick to fakies on the wallride. Joe Rich was doing his usual icepicks and fufanu's on the rail of the quarter they where sick to see!! Luc-E was doing his original tricks normal and opposite side, this guy has a great style!! Nate wessel also was doing rad stuff. Fids was going off like crazy, of all the riders he seemed to enjoy himself the most, loads of energy going on when he rides!! Like Paul Robberts, who was announcing, said "MASSIVE!!". The rider who impressed me most though was Rooftop, I had never seen him ride before but his burly tricks really impressed me!! Rock 'n Roll barspin on the quarterpipe rail, crazy fufanu's all over the place, 360's over the spine, crazy!! All in all it was well worth the 10 pounds (39 Guilders!!). |
