1982 | Shimano DX pedals. |

2008 | Brian Tunney, espn.go.com, august 2010: The very idea of what a BMX pedal should be saw a drastic sea change. One moment, everyone rocked alloy pedals, and then, almost overnight, alloy pedals were replaced by "plastic" (or polycarbonate) pedals. This isn't to say that alloy pedals went the way of the dodo -- they still have a loyal following among a broad group of riders -- but plastic pedals became all the rage in a way the BMX industry hadn't seen before. This was due to several factors. Plastic pedals were lighter than their alloy counterparts, much cheaper, and a little more forgiving on the shins. |
