2006 | Press release, Jan 02, 2006 Carlsbad, CA.: Jim Ford, former President and CEO of Haro Bicycle Corporation announced today that he has joined MirraCo, a newly formed company created by Dave Mirra, BMX freestyles most accomplished athlete as well as its most recognized personality. Ford will retain his previous title of President and CEO as well a significant ownership position in the new company. Mirras ten plus years with Haro will conclude on December 31st. In describing the situation, Mirra had this to say, I had originally intended to finish my career with Haro, but considering how far apart we were in negotiating a new deal, I figured I could do better on my own. Mirra did however acknowledge that his career with Haro was both fun and rewarding and that he intends to honor his contractual commitments with the company through the end of the year. Dave is an incredible athlete, but Ive also learned he is quite a salesman commented Ford. He was relentless in his efforts to get me involved in his new venture once I left Haro, despite the concerns I had with starting from scratch with a new company. Ironically, after playing key roles in making Haro the dominant brand in the BMX/Freestyle segment of the market, Mirra and Fords new company will be the industrys newest rider-owned brand trying to chip away at Haros significant market share. Im looking forward to some aggressive but friendly competition with our friends at Haro. It will certainly be challenging given Haros dominance in the category, but the times I enjoyed the most during my career at Haro were when we were the underdog fighting to grow the business. This will be a lot of fun and Im looking forward to it stated Ford. Theres a lot work to do in short period of time, but the company intends to have bikes in shops by early summer. Details of the companys plans for sales and distribution were not available at the time of this release, but Ford did indicate that the company will be based in Carlsbad and the process of hiring a Product Manager, Art Director, and other key positions will begin immediately. www.myspace.com/mirracobmx: Mirraco began operations in February of 2006. Its a rider owned company like many others that started because the founders loved the sport and wanted to do something on their own, rather than just riding for some big company. Unlike other rider owned companies, Mirraco was founded by the sports most famous athlete, Dave Mirra. Having won more X-Games Gold medals than any other competitor, Dave has credentials that no other rider or bike company founder has ever combined in starting a company. Dave is determined to be as successful in business as he is in riding by applying that same determination, work ethic, and passion to designing and marketing a line of products that bear his name. He knows the expectations of riders everywhere will be high and Mirraco plans to deliver products that exceed those expectations in performance, quality, and attention to detail. |

Nigel Sylvester www.expn.com, january 2012: Nigel Sylvester has parted ways with longtime bike sponsor Mirraco. According to a statement from Mirraco, "While we hate to see Nigel go, we understand why he's chosen to move on. He's been given a unique opportunity to help build a brand. He's always been interested in product design, promotion, and creating an image around his lifestyle. His new role will give him full control over all of those areas of the business and that's something Mirraco just couldn't offer him." Nigel Sylvester, january 2012: I want to express my deepest gratitude to Dave Mirra, Jim Ford and the whole Mirraco staff. It's been an awesome ride for the past six years. I've had the opportunity to learn so much, and I'm truly grateful. |
